Fitbit Charge 2 and Flex 2 announced: all-new designs, software features and more

Image
Fitbit has been focusing on form over functionality lately, with the recent launch of the Blaze and Alta earlier this year. Now Fitbit is back with two new activity trackers that aim to bring more features and style to the company’s growing lineup. The Charge 2, which is the successor to the extremely popular Charge HR , is Fitbit’s new flagship activity tracker that sports some new software features and interchangeable bands. The Flex 2, which is the successor to 2013’s Flex, brings a swim-proof design and a focus on fashion. Let’s start with the Fitbit Charge 2. Basically, if you loved the Charge HR but need something a little more beefy, the Charge 2 will do the trick. It still comes with all the great fitness features you’ve grown to love – automatic activity tracking, sleep tracking, move reminders, and more – but now there’s a much larger 1.5-inch touchscreen display that will be able to show you more information at a glance. The screen will display your move reminder...

Samsung Gear IconX Bluetooth earbuds now available on Amazon

Image
We’ve been eagerly awaiting the actual release of the Samsung Gear IconX wireless Bluetooth earbuds ever since they started talking about it and last week, it finally dropped together with the new Gear VR through AT&T. But if you prefer to do your shopping over at a certain online retail giant, this unique audio accessory is also now available through Amazon. It’s not the cheapest of earbuds though, but if you have extra to spare, critics are saying this should be worth the couple of hundred bucks that you need to pay to get them into your ears. The Gear IconX has a lot of selling points if you’re looking for audio accessories that are more than just things you stick in your ears to hear music. For one thing, it has an internal storage of 4GB so you can store around 1,000 audio files and you don’t even need to bring your phone when you’re working out or doing a fitness activity. It is also water-resistant so you don’t have to worry about a little rain or a lot of sweat sho...

Sony XAV-AX100 in-car audio system has plenty of smartphone connectivity

Image
Music is definitely something that inspires us, and it can lift us up whenever we are feeling down or defeated. Of course, some music are more soothing than other genres, and if you happen to do a whole lot of driving every single day, it would be best if your vehicle could be equipped with a decent sound system so that you can soothe away the rough edges of potential road rage situations with a hint of Bach or Mozart, or even Taylor Swift. Sony intends to bring smartphone connectivity to the driver’s seat with the new Sony XAV-AX100 in-car audio system . The Sony XAV-AX100 receiver is touted to offer just about everything that you need and more for those long car journeys, where among them include the latest smartphone connectivity alongside what Sony claims to be the best user interface, in addition to the ability to play a range of media files as well as ensuring that one can enjoy the most up-to-date information while on-the-move. Android 7.0 Nougat available today for Nexus devices

Image
After a five-month developer preview program, the next version of Android is finally upon us! Google has announced that Android 7.0 Nougat is complete, and Nexus devices will begin receiving the update from today. Nougat brings a host of new features, including split-screen multi-window , improved notifications and longer battery life through the improved Doze feature . We're not expecting the final version of Android 7.0 to feature any significant changes compared to the last developer preview build, which arrived a month ago. (With the natural exception that Nougat is now considered final and stable, and ready for everyone to use.) Google says the over-the-air update to Android Nougat will go out to the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One) as part of a staged rollout over the coming weeks. (Only a few Nexus owners will receive the OTA today, Google tells us, and some carriers will get it later than othe...

A pocket-sized power bank that’ll help your laptop stay alive

Image
I’ve lived through a lot of live blogs in my life, mostly by the skin of my teeth, desperately watching as my battery ticks down, hoping desperately that the company is nearing the finish line. Of course, the fact that both my personal work computers sometimes feel like they’re on their last legs doesn’t help much, but the fact remains: There are few things in this life as anxious-making as watching a piece of hardware die right in front of you when you need it the most. I’ve played around with battery extenders in the past, but when it comes to keeping a laptop alive, there’s not a lot of middle ground between big, bulky power banks and ones too small to keep anything beyond a smartphone alive for an extended period. Omnicharge promises some middle ground — and judging from the company’s Indiegogo campaign, which is a ridiculous 2,401 percent funded as of the writing of this, the internet community doesn’t need all that much convincing of the product’s viability. And for ...

Clearer ASUS ZenWatch 3 Render Shows Us What To Expect

Image
From what we heard, ASUS has a new smartwatch in the works in the form of the ASUS ZenWatch 3. Just last week, photos of the device surfaced which revealed its round watch face and on its side, three buttons. Now thanks to an official render , we have a clearer look at what the ZenWatch 3 will be bring to the table in terms of design. This render was actually discovered within the beta version of the ZenWatch Manager app by ASUS that was released on Android. Given that ASUS’ other smartwatch offerings have been of the square-ish variety, this rendering is obviously the ZenWatch 3. Unlike the photos, this image looks a lot more cleaned up and sleek, and yes it looks like the buttons are still there. Unfortunately as with the previous leaks, not much is known about the ZenWatch 3 in terms of specs and features. It’s hard to tell from the photos but it is possible that there could be a heart rate sensor built into it, which is more or less customary when it comes to wearable...

These Zungle Panther Sunglasses give your life a soundtrack while making you look cool

Image
If you live in an area that sees a lot of sun, then you probably own at least one pair of sunglasses. Some like to be stylish and have multiples so they can coordinate with their outfits, but functionality and not spending copious amounts on many different pairs of shades can be just as effective. Of course, they don’t just have to be normal sunglasses that block your eyes from the rays of the sun. They can be far more…entertaining. While you wouldn’t think of these sweet Zungle Panther Sunglasses as being anything more snazzy shades, they’re also bone conduction speakers, and have a mic so you can take calls on the go. It’ll be so discreet that people will think you’re talking to yourself all over again, just like the Bluetooth earpiece craze (which hasn’t fully gone away). We’ve seen plenty of these bone conduction headsets in the past, though nothing quite this streamlined. The benefits of these headsets are that they are much safer as the open ear allows you to he...

Intel Unveils Joule-An High-Perofrmance Atom-Powered IoT Module & Maker Kit

Image
Today at Intel’s annual Developer Forum, the hardware manufacturer announced the latest in their Internet of Things-focused product kits: Joule. Based around Intel’s canceled-but-not-quite Broxton Atom processor , Joule is designed to further augment Intel’s existing lineup of kits by offering a much higher performance part based on the latest generations of the company’s technologies. Back in 2013 Intel announced Galileo , the first of what has become a collection of IoT kits/platforms for hardware developers. Galileo and its compatriots Edison and Curie turned out to be solid hits for the company – even with competing kits already on the market – driving a big part of Intel’s overall IoT growth in recent years. The System on Module boards proved popular with tinkers and product developers alike who needed small systems for everything from small prototypes to a commercial off the shelf boards. Joule then extends Intel’s presence in this market by offering a higher perform...

HP Unveils Omen X Gaming Desktop PC

Image
Building your own gaming PC is usually the cheaper route, although we guess the only downside is that in terms of after-sales service you’re pretty much on your own. Another disadvantage is that sometimes PC makers have the resources to craft designs for their gaming rigs that most regular users won’t be able to replicate. If you are looking for an “out there” gaming rig, HP might have something for you. The company has recently taken the wraps off its latest gaming desktop PC in the form of the Omen X . As you can see in the image above, this is definitely not your typical design. Sure, gaming rigs have been known to go beyond the borders of traditional design for their chassis, but the Omen X certainly takes the cake. However it isn’t designed just to look pretty. According to HP, the diamond design was chosen as it helps to keep the PC cool. “The OMEN X utilizes a diamond-shaped tower that rests on one edge – almost as if it were levitating in mid-air – so that all six si...

Logitech Pop Home Switch

Image
We'll still need electrical outlets for the foreseeable future, but the light switch may soon be a thing of the past. The Logitech Pop Home Switch is designed to replace your typical wall switch while being far more versatile. Using a wireless connection with a stationary base — there are those pesky outlets again — it works all over your home, letting you do things like turn on the lights, start a playlist, or lock the door. It's compatible with a whole host of popular products and can perform three actions per switch with press, double-press, and press-and-hold gestures. And since it's also compatible with the company's Harmony hub, you can use the the Pop to dim the lights, turn on your home theater gear, close the blinds, and start a movie, all with a single press. Try finding a regular switch that can do all that. Source : http://uncrate.com/stuff/logitech-pop-home-switch/

BMW’s next i8 could boast 750 electric ponies and a 300-mile range

Image
In 2011, BMW debuted the i sub-brand with two vehicles: the all-electric i3 and the i8 hybrid. Both cars were as progressive as they were eco-friendly, boasting innovative tech alongside efficient plug-in powertrains. The launch of BMW i was a hallmark moment for the automaker, but the brand’s next wave is shaping up to be even more impressive. Automobile Magazine reports that BMW i is going fully electric, which means the i8 sports car will jettison its internal combustion engine for a high-revving, three-motor electric setup. Not only will this make the car more “green,” its performance should improve dramatically. Currently, the i8 makes 357 horsepower. The next model could boast as many as 750 ponies from its all-electric setup, the report states, and in addition, it’s expected to feature four-wheel steering, four-wheel drive, torque vectoring, active suspension, and an impressive 300-mile range. To say the least, the specs are shocking. The new i8 is due out in 2022 or 20...

'Apple Watch 2' with GPS, barometer, better waterproofing, more to launch in 2H of 2016

Image
Apple is planning to release two Apple Watch versions in the second half of 2016, one a minor update over existing models and an "Apple Watch 2" with GPS, barometer and more, according to one connected insider. Well-connected KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a note to investors on Sunday, obtained by AppleInsider, detailed Apple's wearable timeline for the coming six months. Kuo believes Apple is planning to launch two new Apple Watch versions in the second half of 2016, both of which offer moderate improvements over their predecessor. The first unit will be an iterative upgrade on the original Apple Watch and is expected to sport the same aesthetics, but with improved intervals like a TSMC processor built on the 16nm process. Waterproofing should also be slightly improved. A second version, dubbed "Apple Watch 2," is also expected to share the same general design as current models, but will include a GPS radio and barometer for improved geolocation ...

Tesla rival LeEco building $1.8 billion EV factory in China

Image
China's EV industry hasn't produced many vehicles yet, but thanks to strong government incentives, it's on an explosive growth curve. One of the main players is electronics giant LeEco, which backs EV builder Faraday Future and recently showed off its own electric car, the LeSee . It unveiled plans for a $1.8 billion EV factory near the Chinese city of Huzhou that will pump out 400,000 EVs per year. The new plant "will be open to all LeEco's strategic partners including Faraday Future," says CEO Jia Yueting. The factory will only produce EV vehicles with connected and self-driving features. It's just first phase of what will eventually be a $3 billion auto "Eco Experience Park" complete with with a theme park, EV facilities and offices, according to LeEco. The company plans to strengthen ties with partner Faraday Future, which is also building its own $1 billion EV plant in Nevada. Faraday recently announced plans to build a second plan...

New MacBook Pros: smaller footprint; thinner but not wedge-shaped; bigger trackpad, AMD graphics option, more

Image
A new Bloomberg report says that the new range of MacBook Pro models will have a smaller footprint than existing models, and will be thinner but not adopt the wedge shape of the MacBook Air and 12-inch MacBook. The trackpad is also slightly wider than current models. All of the info  lines up with previous reports and a set of leaked shells from earlier this year . The machines are said to already be ‘in advanced testing’ but will not launch until after the iPhone event in September, confirming earlier reports that said that the laptops were scheduled for release in quarter four. The report also confirms what we’d speculated about the OLED touch strip replacing the function keys  'Instead of physical keys, a strip-like screen will present functions on an as-needed basis that fit the current task or application […] Apple’s goal with the dedicated function display is to simplify keyboard shortcuts traditionally used by experienced users. The panel will the...

Polar’s M600 is the first Android Wear-based, hardcore fitness watch

Image
While known for advanced and often niche fitness trackers, Polar isn't afraid of the smartwatch market. Today, the company announced a new kind of fitness watch: the M600 is, in the words of Polar's reps, a cross between an Android Wear smartwatch and the A360 fitness band , one of the company's mid-tier devices. Polar reps told me the company wanted to combine the best parts of a smartwatch with the efficiency and features of a serious fitness device. The M600 is the first Android Wear fitness device to be made by a major fitness company, rather than a tech company. The M600 retains the signature look and feel of Polar products. While most Android Wear devices go for style, the M600—with its simple rectangular module, square display, and interchangeable silicone band—looks and feels like it's built for fitness. Inside is a built-in GPS, and underneath the module is a 6-LED optical heart rate monitor. The M600's HRM is a modified version of the A360's H...

Casio G-SHOCK introduces Vintage Gold theme To Master Of G

Casio is a name not to be reckoned with when it comes to two things — the calculator, as well as their range of G-Shock timepieces. Granted, these are not the only two things that the Japanese company is famous for, but this does not mean that they are darn good at the mentioned pair of areas. This time around, we will concentrate on the fact that a couple of new Vintage Gold models will make their debut under the Master of G collection. The G-Shock range of watches have long lived up to their namesake, being tough as nails and more or less capable of surviving just about any extreme condition without missing a beat. The latest vintage-inspired black and gold color scheme would cover the new Gulfmaster model (GN1000GB-1A) and Mudmaster model (GG1000GB-1A), delivering a stylish, classic look and toughness at a price point that would not be a burden to your pockets. The Mudmaster range of watches happen to fall within the Master of G Series that have been specially designed for...
